Job Description:

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership to their team in co-ordinating the company’s transport operations from their NI headquarters across the UK, Ireland and Europe.

Responsible for a vital part of the Supply Chain the successful applicant will have full accountability, lead and develop the team and maintain high levels of accuracy in all Freight Movements.

The candidate will develop and implement processes to ensure client agreements are managed, promote an environment of continual process improvement and drive employee initiatives.

Key Responsibilities / Duties:

· Leading, managing and motivating the Freight team to deliver on its strategic and Operational objectives.

· Primary contact for the operation of the department between hauliers, departments and customers.

· Oversee the day to day operations and lead staff to achieve operational excellence and high standards of service delivery.

· Identify constraints; implement improvement programmes and procedures to improve productivity and performance.

  • Building and growing strong commercial relationships with key clients and stakeholders to meet their needs and maximise future opportunities
  • Resource plan to ensure all operational tasks are fulfilled productively and effectively

· Assist with the negotiation of formal haulage contracts.

· Minimising cost through effective management of hauliers through these agreed contracts.

· Ensure reliable supply to customers.

· Formalise quarterly KPI’s of hauliers to agree capacities and to review performance.

· Devise and execute the required strategic strategy for managing seasonal demands.

· To identify and negotiate freight solutions with both internal and external customers.

· Demonstrate a strong commercial awareness.

  • Fully competent and experienced in negotiating rates, driving down costs and implementing improvement projects
  • Assist with preparation of annual budget
  • Review all current operations and dealings with selected freight forwarders
  • Ensure regular weekly meetings are held with hauliers and maintain accurate minutes and actions from these.
  • Develop and mentor staff through open communication, training and development and regular 1-2-1 processes.
  • Build and maintain employee morale and motivation.

Experience / Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years supervisor / management experience.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work on own initiative and deliver change

· At least 5 years’ experience negotiating and managing haulier relationships.

· Significant experience working in a Freight and/or shipping operational role.

· Hold a current CPC licence.

· Previous experience in developing cost effective logistics supply strategies.

· IT proficient including use of Excel, Word, Outlook and experience of adapting to new technologies.

· Managing staff including recruitment, performance management and disciplinary.

· Experience of managing change and implementing new procedures and processes.

· Strong organisational, time management and planning skills

· Able to multi task and adapt to changing production and operational demands.

· Knowledge of Import & Export legislations and document process and requirements.

· Professionalism, with excellent interpersonal and people management skills

· Good attention to detail.
